Who We Are
The Museum of Geosciences is located in Blacksburg, Virginia. It is part of the Department of Geosciences at Virginia Tech. The Museum was first developed in Derring Hall in 1968 and evolved from various collections around the department.
Our vision is to inspire interest in geosciences across national and international communities.
Our Mission is to serve as a center and resource for geoscience literacy. The Museum provides free public K-12 exhibits, educational materials, tours/programming, and events. We want to contribute knowledge, inspiration, and appreciation for the geosciences.
Our Location
The Museum of Geosciences is housed within the Department of Geosciences in Derring Hall, room 2062, Virginia Tech, 926 West Campus Drive, Blacksburg, Virginia 24061.
Reduced Summer Hours
NOTE: The Museum will be temporarily closed from May 16th to June 3rd. It will reopen on June 4th at reduced hours. See below for details.

Museum Parking
No free parking is available at the Museum.

The Museum recommends visitors park at the Perry Street Parking Garage.
